Students from North Macedonian school took part in a Erasmus+ summer camp in Latvia

In our Erasmus+ KA229 project Slow down education in the nature a students’ exchange happened in the period 19 -23 August 2021. Students and teachers from all partner-schools from Latvia, Estonia, Romania and Macedonia took part. From our school five students took part in the summer camp in Latvia: Hristijan Jakimov, Sara Stevanovska, Anastasija Nikolova, Matej Pavlovski and Marko Pavleski. The host-school was Stalgene Secondary School from Latvia. We interviewed the students, participants in the summer camp in Latvia, so we can relay their impressions from this experience. 

L.A. IN-formator: What were the criteria that you had to fulfill in order to take part in this exchange? 

H.Jakimov: We had to actively take part in the activities in the STEM hobby group and put a lot of effort in the activities 

S.Stevanovska: We had speak good English, to be hardworking and organized, to be prepared to take part in the activities that was given to us 

A.Nikolova: We were members of the STEM hobby group in our school and we had to complete all the tasks given by the teachers 

M.Pavleski, M.Pavlovski: We had to be members of STEM hobby group and be active 

L.A. IN-formator: What knowledge did you have to have in order to take part in this exchange?

H.Jakimov: We had speak good English, to be able to communicate with other people and to have good knowledge from the STEM subjects (biology, physics, chemistry) 

S.Stevanovska: We had speak good English in order to be able to speak with the other students from the other countries and to have good knowledge from the STEM subjects (maths, biology, physics, chemistry)

A.Nikolova: We had to speak good English, to be good at socializing, to be well behaved in the company of others and not to be shy  

M.Pavleski: To have good English speaking skills, good knowledge in maths, biology, physics and chemistry and to be good communicators 

M.Pavlovski: To have good English speaking skills

L.A. IN-formator: What preparations did you have before the exchange? 

H.Jakimov: We prepared a presentation to present our country, we had to get authorization from our parents, have Covid tests and we also had a meeting with our school principal and the responsible teachers from the project that explained to us the traveling conditions and the activities we were going to do there  

S.Stevanovska, A.Nikolova: We had to make a presentation about Macedonia and few days before the exchange, we had a meeting to practice the presentation. We also had two meeting with the responsible teachers and our principal during which they explained to us what we are going to do there and how we were going to travel. We also had to have Covid tests 

M.Pavleski: First, we had a meeting during which we were told that we need to prepare a presentation in order to present our country. In the presentation, we presented our country symbols as well as our country’s culture and traditions. We agreed that we were take some traditional food with us, such as ajvar, slatko (figs jam), etc. We also had to have a negative Covid-19 test  

M.Pavlovski: We had to take a Covid test and be negative, and our parents had to give permission in order for us to take part in the exchange. We also had a meeting with our principal and responsible teachers where they explained the activities that we were to do in Latvia 

L.A. IN-formator: How did you travel to Latvia? 

H.Jakimov, S.Stevanovska, A.Nikolova, M.Pavleski, M.Pavlovski: We travel by three planes, the first one from Skopje to Zagreb, the second one from Zagreb to Frankfurt and the last one from Frankfurt to Riga 

L.A. IN-formator: Where did you stay during the mobility? 

H.Jakimov, S.Stevanovska, A.Nikolova, M.Pavleski, M.Pavlovski: We stayed in the student’s dormitory in the host-school 

L.A. IN-formator: Did you make new friends? 

H.Jakimov, S.Stevanovska, A.Nikolova, M.Pavleski, M.Pavlovski: Yes we made a lot of new friends with children from Romania, Estonia and Latvia 

L.A. IN-formator: Did you attend any lessons there or did you have other activities? What kind of activities did you have? 

H.Jakimov: We had different projects that were really fun and we learnt a lot of new things 

S.Stevanovska: During the activities we worked in different groups and that how we communicated, we were creative and we had fun 

A.Nikolova: No, we didn’t attend any lessons, but we had a lot of interesting activities that helped us to learn new things and to get to know the other participants better 

M.Pavleski, M.Pavlovski: We worked on different projects and had different activities so we can learn about the other countries 

L.A. IN-formator: Did you learn anything new from this experience? 

H.Jakimov, S.Stevanovska, M.Pavlovski: Yes, we learnt some new things about Romania, Estonia and Latvia and we learnt about different things about life in Latvia 

A.Nikolova: Yes, we learnt a lot of new things and we learnt about the culture of the other countries 

M.Pavleski: We had some new experiences about the children from Europe 

L.A. IN-formator: Did you gain any new skills and knowledge?  

H.Jakimov: We learnt about new ways to calculate the height and age of trees, different ways to communicate and similar things  

S.Stevanovska: Yes, we learnt a lot of new skills, for example how to dance the Latvian and Romanian folkdance and other skills 

A.Nikolova: Yes, we learnt new knowledge about the other countries 

M.Pavleski: In Latvia, we learnt how to spray paint, we took part in Olympic Games and we learnt about the other countries  

M.Pavlovski: We leant how to dance the traditional Latvian folkdance and how to spray paint 

L.A. IN-formator: Was this your first experience in this kind of activity? 

H.Jakimov, S.Stevanovska, A.Nikolova, M.Pavleski, M.Pavlovski: Yes, this was my first experience in a mobility in another country 

L.A. IN-formator: Was this a positive experience for you? 

H.Jakimov, S.Stevanovska, A.Nikolova, M.Pavleski, M.Pavlovski: Yes, this was a hugely positive experience for all of us 

L.A. IN-formator: Would you take part in another activity like this one? 

H.Jakimov, S.Stevanovska, A.Nikolova, M.Pavleski, M.Pavlovski: Yes, we would gladly take part in another activity like this one in the future
