During 5-7 October 2021 the students of the sixth and first grade, from “Mihai Eminescu” School, Alexandria, Romania, got together in a virtual classroom under the local “Math and Scratch” project, hosted locally by elementary school teacher Corina Voicu Popescu, under the “Meet and Code” European event, sponsored by Techsoup Association.

This was made possible by the fact that the sixth graders had been working for three years within the Erasmus+ Project” Schools Coding, Robots Meeting”, and now has come the time that their knowledge to be passed on to their younger peers. On the first days, the students from the sixth grade were trainers to the small ones, helping them make a scratch account and help them understand the basics of coding. After the small ones made a scratch account with the help of their parents and their helpers, they were shown a simple scratch game about math, involving simple addition and subtraction, and how to make it. After the little coders understood how scratch works and how to make a simple project they were each put in groups and assigned a special room each using the Google Meet Breakout Room feature.
After 3 days of activities and their games being ready, they showed them off for everyone to see. The children from the first grades really enjoyed the time with their coding mentors from the sixth grade; they would love to meet them again! /Bogdan Paunica, VI A/
